Why Cotton Is the Perfect Transitional Fall Fabric

The hardest weather to dress for isn't deep winter or high summer — it's the in-between. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, chilly evenings, all in the same day. Cotton is built for exactly this.

Breathability is the reason. Natural cotton fibers let air move and wick moisture, so you stay comfortable when the afternoon sun surprises you — no trapped heat, no clammy cling the moment you step indoors.

It also layers without bulk. A cotton dress is the perfect base: add a slip for warmth, a cardigan or denim jacket for a cool breeze, tights and boots as the season deepens. Each layer changes the look without fighting the fabric.

And it's gentle on skin. Fall means more time in close-fitting layers, and cotton — soft, non-irritating, and free of synthetic blends — is the kind of fabric you forget you're wearing, in the best way.

Our one exception is the Janette, a cotton-and-linen blend. Linen adds an airy, slightly textured drape that's lovely for early fall and pairs beautifully with a layer underneath as the temperature dips.
